jal

jal

JAL means water in Hindi-Urdu. This idea came to me whilst at Edinburgh University, where Rana Adan Abid and I decided to launch a magazine to add a more cultural component to the existing South Asian scene. Working in collaboration with the Centre for South Asian Studies, as well as the South Asian Students' Association, I served as Editor-in-Chief for these two issues, before handing it over to other students. The idea was to leave this as our legacy, in the hope that future students will continue to culturally engage with their roots and have a space to express their multicultural identities.

The first issue, simply titled "JAL," features cover art by myself, and the second issue, "Retrospective," features cover art by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Aside from being Editor-in-Chief I have contributed articles, poetry, and photography to both issues. Please click on the images above (and below on the Mobile site) to view the digital version of the magazines.

These issues are from 2013 & 2014.
